HBO'S "BOARDWALK EMPIRE" LEADS NOMINATIONS FOR VES AWARDS

The Visual Effects Society announced nominees for the 9th Annual VES Awards in which the visual effects work on HBO’s award-winning series “Boardwalk Empire” leads the overall nominations with five.

“We are very excited to be recognized by this prestigious society,” says vfx producer Richard Friedlander. “We are very proud of Brainstorm’s work, but never expected the series to lead the overall nominations with this many nods.”
Brainstorm’s co-owner, Glenn Allen, adds that “the effects are invisible but extensive, so it is especially gratifying when your peers acknowledge the amount of work and expertise that went into creating the 100 year old world of ‘Boardwalk Empire.’”
The categories that Brainstorm are nominated in include Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Broadcast Program, Outstanding Created Environment in a Live Action Broadcast Program, and Outstanding Models and Miniatures in a Broadcast Program or Commercial. Congratulations to Richard Friedlander, J. John Corbett, Matthew Conner, Jun Zhang, and Brendan Fitzgerald on their well-deserved nominations. It’s truly an honor!

As the series creator and executive producer Terry Winter said in his WIRED magazine interview this past fall, “Without Brainstorm’s creations, we would not have had a boardwalk or an empire.”

The 9th Annual VES Awards will be held in Beverly Hills, CA on Tuesday, February 1, 2011. It will air exclusively on Reelz channel Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 10pm.
